Around 1910, a patient at State Lunatic Asylum No. 3 in Nevada, Missouri, known as The Electric Pencil, created 280 drawings in various mediums. These drawings, featuring animals, people, and buildings, were done on both sides of 140 ledger pages, each labeled with the hospital's name. The drawings were later sewn into a handmade album but were lost for a century. Now publicly displayed, the album showcases the unique beauty of the drawings. An essay by Lyle Rexer contextualizes the drawings as outsider art, highlighting The Electric Pencil's exceptional talent.
